Quick Answer
After +2, some universities accept your result for direct bachelor's entry and others require a foundation or pathway program first, so check each university's Nepal page. For UK entry in 2027, the main UCAS deadline for most courses is January 13, 2027 at 18:00 UK time, and degree-level English is B2. A UK Student visa can be applied for from outside the UK up to 6 months before your course starts.
Can you study abroad right after +2 (Class 12)?
Yes, but the route depends on the country and on each university. A Nepali +2 result is accepted for direct bachelor's entry at some universities, and others ask you to complete a foundation or pathway program first. There is no single rule for a whole country, so you check the page of each course you want.
The examples below come from university pages we read in November 2026. They show how different the answers can be, so treat them as examples, not as a rule for every university.
UK: UCAS, direct entry and foundation years
Undergraduate applications to UK universities go through UCAS. For 2027 entry, applications can be submitted from September 1, 2026, according to Imperial College London.
- October 15, 2026, 18:00 UK time: deadline for medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, and for Oxford and Cambridge. This date has passed.
- January 13, 2027, 18:00 UK time: the equal consideration deadline for all other undergraduate courses.
What +2 qualifies for differs by university. The University of Manchester says on its Nepal entry requirements page that applicants with the Higher Secondary Certificate must complete a university-recognized foundation program before joining an undergraduate course. It lists direct entry only for A-levels and the IB. For its integrated foundation year in science and engineering, the page lists a minimum of 75% overall, but the figures for Maths and Physics are not consistent on the page, so ask the university.
Another university may set different rules, so read the Nepal page of every university on your list. Our study in the UK guide explains the UK system in more detail.
USA: no single national deadline
In the US, you apply to each college directly, and each one sets its own deadlines, tests and documents. James Madison University is one example. Its Nepal page lists a minimum average of Second Division, Merit, or 45% for first-year applicants, and says SAT or ACT scores are optional. It also asks for translated and certified transcripts, a letter of recommendation, proof of English proficiency and a financial certification form.
A college can also offer an International Year Program for students who meet the academic requirements but not the English requirement. Other colleges will ask for different documents, so check each one.
Once you are accepted by a school certified by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), the school issues a Form I-20. You need it to pay the SEVIS fee and to apply for the student visa, according to Study in the States. See our study in the USA guide for more.
Canada: college and university routes
Canadian universities set their own rules for Nepali applicants. Wilfrid Laurier University says on its Nepal admissions page that five academic courses are required for admission. To clear a conditional offer, your board must send either the National Examination Board certificate (Grades XI and XII) or the Higher Secondary Education Board certificate directly to the university, with final grades.
A study permit needs a letter of acceptance from your school. In most cases you also need a provincial or territorial attestation letter (PAL/TAL), or a Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) if you study in Quebec, according to IRCC. Our study in Canada guide covers the options.
Australia: Year 12 entry or a foundation program
Australian universities and colleges publish their own requirements for Nepal. Deakin College lists two routes on its academic entry requirements page:
- Foundation program: completion of the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (Year 11) with a GPA of 2.0.
- Diploma: completion of the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (Year 12) with a GPA of 2.6.
These are one college's figures. Other providers set their own, and English requirements are separate. Read our guide to Australian student visa English test scores and our study in Australia guide.
Which English test do you need?
It depends on the country, the university and the course. For the UK, GOV.UK says a Secure English Language Test (SELT) from an approved provider is needed if you have no qualification that proves your English. The level for degree-level study is B2. A university that is a Higher Education Provider can assess your English itself, but the standard must still be equivalent to B2, according to GOV.UK.
For other countries, the test and the score come from each university's own English page. Some US colleges accept more than one test, and some offer an international year for students who need more English. Do not book a test until you know which one your shortlisted universities accept. Our guides cover IELTS for the UK from Nepal and studying in the UK without IELTS.
Month-by-month plan for a 2027 intake
This is a planning suggestion, not an official timetable. Real deadlines differ for each university, so confirm every date on its page.
- November 2026: shortlist 5 to 8 courses in 2 or 3 countries. Read the Nepal entry page of each university and note whether +2 is accepted or a foundation program is needed.
- December 2026: choose and book your English test. Ask your school for transcripts, and start collecting the documents each university lists.
- January 2027: UK applicants submit through UCAS before January 13, 2027, 18:00 UK time for most courses. For other countries, send the applications that are open.
- February to April 2027: respond to offers, answer university requests quickly, and compare conditions such as the foundation year and English scores.
- After your +2 results: send final results to the university when it asks, and meet any conditions on your offer.
- Once you have your offer or acceptance document: prepare the visa. For a UK Student visa from outside the UK, the earliest you can apply is 6 months before your course starts, according to GOV.UK.
- Before departure: pay what is due, arrange housing and book travel.

Funds and visa basics at a high level
Every country asks you to show that you can pay for your studies and support yourself, and each has its own steps:
- UK: an offer from a licensed student sponsor, enough money to support yourself and pay for your course, and English at the required level, according to GOV.UK.
- US: the Form I-20 from your school, then the visa application on the State Department's website.
- Canada: a letter of acceptance, proof of identity, and proof of funds, according to IRCC. In most cases a PAL or TAL is needed too.
- Australia: check the Department of Home Affairs page for the Student visa (subclass 500) for current requirements.
Fees and the exact funds change often, so we do not repeat them here. See our UK student visa cost guide and our visa cost comparison for the UK, USA, Canada and Australia.
Common mistakes after +2
- Assuming +2 works everywhere. One university may take it for direct entry, while another needs a foundation year first. Read each Nepal page.
- Booking the wrong English test. Check which tests and scores each university accepts before you pay.
- Waiting for results before starting. Many steps, such as shortlisting and the English test, can begin before your final results.
- Missing UCAS dates. For most UK courses the equal consideration deadline is January 13, 2027, so a late start leaves little time.
- Using out-of-date figures. Entry marks, fees and funds change every year. Use the official page on the day you apply.
- Ignoring the foundation year in your budget. A foundation or pathway year adds time and cost before your degree starts.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I go directly to a bachelor's degree abroad after +2 from Nepal?
At some universities yes, at others no. The University of Manchester, for example, says Higher Secondary Certificate holders must first complete a recognized foundation program. Deakin College lists a Year 12 route into a diploma and a Year 11 route into a foundation program. Check the Nepal page of each university.
What is the UCAS deadline for 2027 entry?
For most undergraduate courses, the equal consideration deadline is January 13, 2027 at 18:00 UK time. The deadline for medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, Oxford and Cambridge was October 15, 2026.
Do I need SAT scores to study in the US from Nepal?
It depends on the college. James Madison University, for example, lists SAT or ACT scores as optional. Check the page of each college you apply to.
What English level do I need for a UK degree?
GOV.UK says the level for degree-level study is B2 if you prove it with a Secure English Language Test. A university that is a Higher Education Provider can assess your English itself, but it must still be equivalent to B2.
When can I apply for a UK Student visa?
From outside the UK, the earliest you can apply is 6 months before your course starts, according to GOV.UK.
