What the 28-Day Rule Means
UKVI wants to see that your funds are genuinely yours and genuinely available. The money must stay at or above the required amount for 28 consecutive days, and the last day of that period must fall within 31 days of your visa application date.
How Much Must Be Held?
| Location | Now | From 30 Nov 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Outside London | £1,171 × 9 = £10,539 (NPR 21.5 Lakhs) | £1,203 × 9 = £10,827 (NPR 22.1 Lakhs) |
| London | £1,529 × 9 = £13,761 (NPR 28.1 Lakhs) | £1,570 × 9 = £14,130 (NPR 28.8 Lakhs) |
Add any first-year tuition you have not yet paid, minus your CAS deposit. Courses shorter than nine months need fewer months of maintenance. Converted at NPR 204 per £1; use the live rate when you apply.
Whose Account Can You Use?
- Your own account or your parents' or legal guardians' account, with a signed consent letter and proof of relationship
- An education loan: a sanction letter from a regulated bank that meets UKVI's requirements can replace savings
- Documents: statements must clearly show the account holder, account number, bank details, dates and running balance
Mistakes That Cause Refusals
- Balance falling below the required amount on any day
- Large, unexplained deposits just before the window, with no clear source
- Statements that end more than 31 days before your application
- Currency conversion with no margin for exchange rate changes
- Mixing accounts that do not match the people named in your documents
Plan Your Calendar Backwards
If you want to apply on 15 November, your 28-day window must start no later than about 18 October. Add a week of buffer, so start building a clean balance at least five to six weeks before you plan to apply.
