Gates Cambridge Scholarship
The Gates Cambridge Scholarship funds postgraduate study at the University of Cambridge. It is open to citizens of any country outside the UK, so Nepali students can apply. It covers PhD (full or part-time), MLitt and many one-year full-time postgraduate courses.
- Covers: the full cost of study, including tuition, a maintenance allowance, airfare, visa costs and the Immigration Health Surcharge.
- Maintenance: £22,000 for 12 months at the 2025/26 rate.
- Length: PhD awards can run for up to four years.
- Not eligible: undergraduate degrees, MBA, MASt and several other courses.
Commonwealth Master's Scholarships
Commonwealth Master's Scholarships fund one-year taught master's degrees in the UK for students from eligible Commonwealth countries. The award covers tuition, airfare and a monthly stipend of £1,712 (£2,000 for London-area universities).
The 2027/28 round closed on October 20, 2026. Applications go through the Commission's online system and a national nominating body, not direct to the Commission.

Funded Options That Are Open to Nepal
If Commonwealth Master's is closed to you, look at Gates Cambridge, Chevening and university scholarships. Many UK universities offer tuition discounts to international students, which reduce cost even when they do not fund living expenses.
